Christopher J. Nurse
Founder, Nurse Public Affairs
Principal
Christopher Nurse was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, where he learned early that the validity of an argument matters more than the volume of a voice. That lesson followed him to Florida, where he spent nine years in state politics — long hours, tough fights, and the kind of relationships you only build by showing up and keeping your word.
He now calls Colorado home. He brought that work ethic and a fresh perspective to the Capitol and founded Nurse Public Affairs to offer something different: straight talk, ethical advocacy, and direct access to the person you hired.
He specializes in work that matters to him: AI regulation, because the technology is moving faster than the law; criminal justice reform, because systems should serve people rather than punish them needlessly; and immigration, elder affairs, and children's policy, because the most vulnerable deserve the clearest voices fighting for them.
Over the course of his career he has translated complex policy goals into legislative reality. He helped author Florida's first comprehensive AI bill, SB 1680 (2024), which created the Government Technology Modernization Council to study the deployment of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies, and enhanced penalties for crimes involving AI-generated child sexual abuse material. He also helped author the HAVEN Act (HB 269), signed into law in May 2026, which expands protections for domestic and dating violence survivors by studying a web-based 911 alert system and extending the Attorney General's address confidentiality program.
In Colorado he has lobbied for immigrant communities on SB26-005, which creates a state-court cause of action for people whose constitutional rights are violated during federal immigration enforcement, and HB26-1276, which strengthens oversight of immigration detention facilities and limits information sharing with federal authorities. From drafting amendments and negotiating with agency officials to building bipartisan coalitions, he handles the mechanics of lawmaking so clients do not have to.
He does not take every client — only the ones he believes in. When you work with him, you work with him. No junior associates. No bait-and-switch. A partner who treats your goals like his own.
When he is not under the Gold Dome, he is in the mountains, keeping up with his puppy Hugh — you may meet Hugh at the Capitol — or cooking something that reminds him of home or of the road.
